  • Tell us a little about yourself!

  • What made you start CrossFit and what has kept you doing it? Has your motivation changed since you first started?

Brandie started doing CrossFit a little over a year before I joined. There was a bring a friend night, so she convinced me to go. I knew I was hooked 3 seconds after the timer started on the WOD. Deep down I always knew CrossFit was something I would enjoy and always wanted to give it a try. Working toward a goal and being competitive is something I’ve always sought after. I recently started going more often and went from 2-3 days a week to 5-6. This was mainly to challenge myself, to see if it was something I could commit to, and see how my body would respond to more physical exertion. I have to say, I’ve never felt better. I may be in a constant state of soreness somewhere on my body, but I’ve been so happy with my progression at the gym. I’ve been pushing myself to do workouts RX as opposed to scaled, and to not care so much where I come on the leaderboard, but know that my biggest competition is myself. I wouldn’t be able to push myself to the limits that I do without the support of the Crossfit athletes and coaches. I love the community aspect and the comradery is amazing. This definitely separates CrossFit St. Charles from other gyms and has kept me coming back.

  • What have you learned since joining the CrossFit St. Charles Family?

That my body is capable of handling more than I ever thought was possible, or that I would ever have tried on my own.

  • What’s your favorite CrossFit moment?

Deadlifting 435 during the Crossfit Total WOD in December. Up until that point, I had no idea I could lift that much weight; granted my form wasn’t the best, but I’m working on that.

  • What impact has CrossFit had on you outside of the gym?

One of the biggest benefits I have had is my work stress level after hours has dropped. Going to the gym straight after work allows me to sweat the stress away. Helps clear my mind of all the work-related tasks I need to get done.

  • What’s your next CrossFit goal(s) and how close are you to reaching it?

More strict pull-ups. I can get 3 currently which is 3 more than I could do 6 months ago. Double-unders are currently a nemesis of mine, I’ve strung together 7 so far, but it's few and far in-between that I get that many in a row. I would also like to drop 40 pounds, this is going to come down to diet, and I love food.

  • What’s something we might not know about you yet?

Chihuahuas are my favorite dog. I have two long hair chihuahuas and love them dearly.

  • What advice might you give to someone who is considering joining CrossFit St. Charles or is new to the gym?

Don’t be intimidated, don’t believe the CrossFit misconceptions. Once you come, you’ll be hooked!

  • What’s the DREW motto?

“What’s the worst that can happen?” and not so much in a “hold my beer and watch this” kind of way but more so in a “try something to see if you can do it, and if the risk outweighs the reward, maybe approach it another way.” I fail all the time, but it’s how I’ve learned and grown as an individual and in my professional career.

  • Write us a WOD! What kinda movements do you love? What’s your favorite way to put in work?

Deadlifts, Back squats, and rowing! I’ve recently started to love the air bike as well. These are some of my favorite movements. I love heavy barbells and anything that doesn’t require burpees, or running. 21-15-9 - For time: --- 21 Deadlifts 225 lbs --- Row 21 Calories --- 15 Deadlifts 225 lbs --- Row 15 Calories --- 9 Deadlifts 225lbs --- Row 9 Calories --- 21 Back Squats 285 (from the rack) --- Bike 21 Calories --- 15 Back Squats 285 (from the rack) --- Bike 15 Calories --- 9 Back Squats 285 (from the rack) --- Bike 9 Calories
