Jaime truly makes our community stronger!

I’m a person who loves being active. It doesn’t matter the activity, as long as I’m moving I’m happy. I also have two adorable kitties that my boyfriend and I rescued a couple of months ago. They are brothers; they are very mischievous and sweet boys. They make us laugh.

  • Tell us a little about yourself!

I’m a person who loves being active. It doesn’t matter the activity, as long as I’m moving I’m happy. I also have two adorable kitties that my boyfriend and I rescued a couple of months ago. They are brothers; they are very mischievous and sweet boys. They make us laugh.

  • What made you start CrossFit and what has kept you doing it? Has your motivation changed since you first started?

I’ve always loved being active and I wanted to do something that was more physically challenging. I was actually playing softball with another member of CrossFit St. Charles, Jenn Hogan, and she talked about the gym. Realizing that one was so close, I decided to check it out, and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Every day I felt myself become more responsive to the workouts and even though the WODS can be intimidating, I really enjoy coming to work and improve.

  • What have you learned since joining the CrossFit St. Charles Family?

Honestly, before I joined the CrossFit family, I worked out at other gyms, and always felt intimidated or judged. While being a part of the CFSTC, I never feel that anymore. We are all of different skills and levels, and we all encourage each other to get through it. There’s nothing like doing an incredibly hard workout when you’re just trying to finish, when you hear your team call your name. When your team believes in you, you should too. At CFSTC, we have such a strong camaraderie that there’s nothing like it.

  • What’s your favorite CrossFit moment?

Seeing my teams improvements. Since joining, I’ve met all kinds of people, and whether it’s watching them do a strict pull-up for the first time or RX’ing weights, it’s so exciting. We’re all there working towards the same goals and to witness that is very inspiring.

  • What impact has CrossFit had on you outside of the gym?

I find myself breathing through things more! It’s crazy to think about, but I realized I have very shallow breathing. It gets especially worse if I’m doing something challenging - during the gym and/or in my daily life. During the WODS, you have to breathe and have a mental focus to keep yourself in the game. So when things get hard or a little overwhelming, I just breathe a little deeper and keep moving. It’s definitely helped me through my anxieties and something I keep with me all day long.

  • What’s your next CrossFit goal(s) and how close are you to reaching it?

Multiple strict pull-up and double-unders! I can do one strict, it’s just finding the strength to do more. I’ve also been trying to improve my grip strength, which should help me in a lot of areas. With double-unders, I’ve been using the mirror to watch my footing and wrist movements. I feel like I’m super close to getting the pattern down.

  • What’s something we might not know about you yet?

If I’m not doing CrossFit or playing softball, you’ll actually find me gaming or being creative. I’ve very proud of my computer; it supports all of my computer games and my art programs.

  • What advice might you give to someone who is considering joining CrossFit St. Charles or is new to the gym?

It’s not as intimidating as you may think! The coaches are great and knowledgeable. There are ways to modify things to your level if you’re not confident. And the people there are great and welcoming. We love seeing new people!

  • What’s the Jaime motto?

    Just keep breathing.

  • Write us a WOD! What kinda movements do you love? What’s your favorite way to put in work?

This is hard because I like a lot of movements and cardio, but I think everyone would kill me if this was real. Call it the Jaime Hustle: 200m run, 10 pull-ups, 200m run, 15 handstand push-ups, 200m run, 20 abmat sit-ups, 200m run, 25 front squats, 200m run, Rope climbs/Muscle-ups
