The CrossFit St Charles Athlete of the Month for February is Justin Donze!
Tell Us about yourself
I live in O’Fallon, MO, I am married and I have two kids. I have worked for the federal government for 15 years, also serving in the Army reserve over 25 years.
What made you start crossfit and what has kept you doing it?
I have seen a lot of people I know in the Army reserve doing it and notice the level of physical fitness there, so I figured I should give it a shot.
Has your motivation changed since you first started Crossfit?
Yes! It has gone from trying to lift heavy & always no matter what, doing the RX, and always going over the time cap, to working on my form and scaling to the workout stimulus. This better allows me to tailor the intensity and difficulty to my current fitness level, minimizing the risk of injury while still providing a challenging workout, ensuring I can train effectively and consistently improve my abilities.
What have you learned since joining the CrossFit st charles family?
I appreciate the coaches input on making sure my form is correct and tips on correctly doing the lifts/movement along with the people in the class being very welcoming. They are caring and help you out with the workouts.
What is your favorite movement?
My favorite movement is a squat.
What impact has crossfit had on you outside of the gym?
It has helped me to stay in good fitness & health. It has kept my energy level up with my kids, and to stay in good physical health readiness for the Army Reserves.
What is your next crossfit goal and how close are you to making it?
My goal is actually to be able to score a 540 on my Army Fitness Combat Test. I took it back in October and scored a 516.
what is something we might not know about you?
I make really good chocolate chip cookies.
what advice would you give to someone who is new or considering joining the gym?
Listen to your coaches and work on getting form right before going crazy heavy!
if you could write your own wod, what would it look like?
10 Rounds of:
200M run
10 squats 155/135
