Switching things up with our Athlete of the Month for August! If you know Coach Michelle, you know that aside from being an amazing coach, she’s also one hell of an athlete, even when she’s carrying around another human in her belly. She’s been with the CFStC fam for a long time and we’re so proud of her for how much she’s helped others and how hard she’s worked! Get to know her more through this interview!

1. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I was born and raised in Nelson, British Columbia Canada. I have been an athlete my whole life playing soccer since I was 5 and playing Field hockey from grade 7 onward and then playing in College for Lindenwood University. I am a soon-to-be mama of two girls. I am also super competitive, mainly with my husband, Cory. 😎

2. What made you start CrossFit and what has kept you doing it?

Well.. (true story) Josh Bridges’ sister (Lauren) told me I looked like Camille Leblanc-Bazinet, so I started following the sport. Cory got us a membership to Crossfit Maryland Heights with Chris Glover for valentines day years ago and we have been hooked ever since.

3. Has your motivation changed since you first started?

Most definitely. It took me a while but I have learned that motivation to master a movement in its proper form and execution is SO much more important than getting the best time or the most amount of weight. I always want to hold myself accountable for movement execution over anything else.

4. What have you learned since joining the CrossFit St. Charles family?

There is something special about this gym and the athletes that fill it. No matter what class you come to, you see a group of determined individuals who work hard every workout. I always walk out of this place with a big smile on my face.

5. What is your favorite movement?

Well right now… I never thought I would say it.. but the bike. Normally without this basketball in my belly, I would say a close match between burpees and squat cleans. (I can’t just pick one)

6. What impact has CF had on you outside of the gym?

The desire to continue to better myself both physically and mentally.

7. What is your next CrossFit goal and how closer are you to reaching it?

To come back smart and slow after having baby #2… the whole smart and slow thing has been hard for me in the past. 🙂

8. What’s something we might not know about you?

I went to University when I was 17 and have my bachelor’s degree and masters in finance. I was also on a bowling team once.

9. What advice might you give to someone who is concerning joining CFSTC or is new to the gym?

If you are on the fence about signing up, do it, take the plunge, you won’t regret it. If you are new, first off WELCOME, and stay consistent. Most importantly, EVERYONE starts somewhere, so just keep going, I promise it will all start clicking soon!

10. What is the Michelle motto?

You can’t expect to see change if you aren’t willing to put in the work and do things differently.

11. If you could write your own WOD, what would it look like?

Oh boy, those that have been doing open gym with me already know what this would look like. 🙂 Probably: 100 Alt DB snatch/90 Box Jump Overs/80 Thrusters/70 Deadlifts/60 burpees/50 alt DB Snatch/40 Box Jump overs/30 Thrusters/20 Deadlifts/10 Burpees – Cash out – 100 Slam Balls

12. What are two of your favorite songs?

This is wayyyy too hard of a question…but a couple of goodies are: Forever – Chris Brown and Touch of Grey – Grateful Dead

We’re so fortunate and happy to have you as a part of our gym fam, Michelle! Congratulations on being Athlete of the Month
