for CFStC in December is Nicole Rude!
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I joined CFSTC in June 2023 after our 10th move to STL. I am married with two daughters in college and a son in HS, and we have two graduations next spring. I work from home in gov’t contracting, so workouts gets me out of the house to break up my day.
What made you start CrossFit and what has kept you doing it?
I was introduced to CrossFit when we lived in WI for 9 mo and wanted to continue when we moved to STL. I found I enjoy more strength training vs a cardio focus with some strength. I didn’t start working out until 5 years ago and have really enjoyed seeing the progression! I keep showing up to see where it will take me.
How has your motivation changed since you first started?
When I first started working out, it was about getting more cardio fit. But I have discovered I really like strength training! So it is now more about seeing what I am capable of than checking the box and counting splat points.
What have you learned since joining the CrossFit St. Charles family?
That I am stronger than I think I am, to trust the coaches, and this community is so welcoming and encouraging!
What is your favorite movement?
Deadlift
What impact has CF had on you outside of the gym?
I am capable of more than I think, and I just need to stick with it and work through challenges one step at a time.
What is your next CrossFit goal and how close are you to reaching it?
Pull Up; not close, but closer than I was a year ago!
What’s something we might not know about you?
We lived in Lausanne, Switzerland for 3 years.
What advice might you give to someone who is considering joining CFStC or is new to the gym?
Give it a try, CFStC coaches are awesome and meet you where you are. They will modify workouts to make them doable and still challenging.
What is the Nicole Motto?
You don’t know unless you try.
If you could write your own WOD, what would it look like?
A combination of rowing, pull ups, and kettlebell swings.
