  • Tell us a little about yourself!

My name is Cody Mason, I’m 31. I have a beautiful wife and we have 4 children. I grew up in North East Missouri. My wife and I have been married for 5 years. We met in Kansas City, where she was attending college.

  • What made you start CrossFit and what has kept you doing it? Has your motivation changed since you first started?

I started CrossFit because I had just come down on recruiting orders and needed to look the part of a professional Soldier. I had let myself go after a recent deployment and needed to get back into fighting shape. I keep coming back for the early morning class at 0500 because I love how I feel and look now. My motivation has definitely increased with all the weight loss and strength I gained since committing whole-heartedly back in March.

  • What have you learned since joining the CrossFit St. Charles Family?

I’ve learned that functional fitness is the future and that the people who go to our gym are truly great people!

  • What’s your favorite CrossFit moment?

Favorite movement...hmmm... I’m not sure I have a favorite. But I do enjoy snatches, deadlifts, and cleans!

  • What impact has CrossFit had on you outside of the gym?

CrossFit has helped me so much. It has taught me humility and how to be truly humble. It’s also given me a newfound love for fitness. I’ve lost 35 pounds and I’ve gained a ton of confidence!

  • What’s your next CrossFit goal(s) and how close are you to reaching it?

My next CrossFit goal is to be able to consistently RX each WOD. I’m not quite there but getting closer every day.

  • What’s something we might not know about you yet?

Something you might not know about me...I once applied for and had an interview to be on the TV show “Naked and Afraid”. However our daughter was born prematurely so I didn’t pursue it any farther.

  • What’s the CODY motto?

My motto, “Do justice, walk humbly, love greatly”

  • Write us a WOD! What kinda movements do you love? What’s your favorite way to put in work?

5 rounds for time: 100m farmer carry, 6 power cleans, 6 front squats, 6 power snatches. Cash-out with a 400m run

19.5 Athlete Spotlight-Michelle W.

19.5 Team Racks and Sacks athlete spotlight goes to Michelle W.! This girl is a beast! She’s motivated and driven. Before Friday she had just gotten her first chest to bar pull up a month ago. She then dominated Friday and got 43! She made contact with that bar like a boss! Every. Single. Rep! It was awesome to watch! Way to crush that goal! #RacksandSacks #cfstc #goals

Athlete Spotlight-Suzanne B.

19.3 Racks and Sacks athlete spotlight goes to Suzanne B. This girl is awesome! Hard working and determined! She walked in Friday morning having never tried strict handstand push-ups and couldn’t get one before the WOD then during got that adrenaline pumping and ended up with 13! 13!!! Beast mode!!

Team Athlete Spotlight 19.1-Jayne G.

Athlete spotlight: Jayne did an arguably harder version of 19.1 that included the ski erg and modified wall balls. This was Jayne’s first Crossfit Open workout, and I was blown away by her mental toughness and athletic drive. She kept a strong pace throughout only pausing to take a break once in the 15 min AMRAP. This is more than I can say for myself as I was curled over, dry heaving, and questioning all my life choices up to that point for a solid 10-15 seconds every round. Jayne inspired me to stop making excuses, stop complaining, and to push my boundaries every single day. In my humble opinion, this is exactly what the open is all about! (honorable mention: Connor Horstman for puking not once but twice after both 19.1 attempts).

Team Athlete Spotlight 19.1-Chris D.

Racks and Sacks 19.1 athlete spotlight goes to Chris D. !!! This guy is awesome!! Not only is he the nicest guy, he worked after class with the team (they love after class team skill building ?) to practice wall balls and every single rep for 19.1 was to full depth!!! Awesome job Chris!!!!!

19.1 Team Athlete Spotlight-Gabby F.

Spotlight athlete of the week is Gabby. Gabby is battling a shoulder injury and still showed up to work. Zero excuses and always wants to do her very best. She pushes herself harder each and every class. Watching her grow exponentially lately is so inspirational. She shows up to dominate and always has a smile on her face doing it. I am beyond proud of her this week! So happy she’s on the <<cough cough>> number 1 Team! #snatchmeifyoucan

Team Athlete Spotlight 19.1-Mike S.

The Aggressively Average team member spotlight for this week is Mike Swider! This is his first Open, and he is a stellar athlete who absolutely CRUSHED the 19.1 WOD at FNL the other night, racking up 247 reps! Beyond that, he has such a great energy and attitude about him, and really pushes himself. We are so glad he is on our team and a member of CFSTC!

Mathew Nolan

Career: Student

Years at CrossFit St. Charles: 7

Mathew is pretty awesome, time everyone knows it!

How Did You Get Started?
I started CrossFit when the kids classes were formed at CFSTC
Favorite & Least Favorite movement and why?
My favorite movement is the back squat because it makes me feel strong, and my least favorite movement is thrusters, because I feel like my height is a disadvantage for me and because of me being a pitcher I have the limit the amount I go over head.
What’s your favorite memory at CrossFit St. Charles?
My favorite memory is when Matthew Kirkland and I faced off at the Festivus games in the mystery wod at the very end of that day.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
My superpower of choice would be the ability to control the weather so I would be able to control when it rains so I never would have to worry about a baseball rain out.
Favorite cheat meal, go!
My favorite cheat meal is a 5 meat supreme dierbergs frozen pizza. It’s the best.
You’re a multi-sport athlete, can you tell us what you play, positions, and how CrossFit helps?
I play baseball and football. In football I’m a outside linebacker and in baseball I’m a pitcher/third baseman. I believe that the overall fitness of CrossFit helps me with both of my sports and the positions I play for both of them
What is a goal you have for yourself in 2019?
My CrossFit goal for 2019 is to deadlift 425lbs and back squat 350lbs. My personal goal is to have a 4.0 GPA.
Whats the Mathew Motto?
My motto is “All Gas No Brakes!!”. It originated from one of my football coaches at CBC. During halftime at the 2018 State Football Championship, he said this because our spirit wasn’t the best during halftime after our opponent scored at the last second of the half to make it a one score game. My coach said “all Gas No Brakes.” Multiple times and we went to win state 45-21
