19.5 Athlete Spotlight-Michelle W.

19.5 Team Racks and Sacks athlete spotlight goes to Michelle W.! This girl is a beast! She’s motivated and driven. Before Friday she had just gotten her first chest to bar pull up a month ago. She then dominated Friday and got 43! She made contact with that bar like a boss! Every. Single. Rep! It was awesome to watch! Way to crush that goal! #RacksandSacks #cfstc #goals

Athlete Spotlight-Suzanne B.

19.3 Racks and Sacks athlete spotlight goes to Suzanne B. This girl is awesome! Hard working and determined! She walked in Friday morning having never tried strict handstand push-ups and couldn’t get one before the WOD then during got that adrenaline pumping and ended up with 13! 13!!! Beast mode!!

Team Athlete Spotlight 19.1-Jayne G.

Athlete spotlight: Jayne did an arguably harder version of 19.1 that included the ski erg and modified wall balls. This was Jayne’s first Crossfit Open workout, and I was blown away by her mental toughness and athletic drive. She kept a strong pace throughout only pausing to take a break once in the 15 min AMRAP. This is more than I can say for myself as I was curled over, dry heaving, and questioning all my life choices up to that point for a solid 10-15 seconds every round. Jayne inspired me to stop making excuses, stop complaining, and to push my boundaries every single day. In my humble opinion, this is exactly what the open is all about! (honorable mention: Connor Horstman for puking not once but twice after both 19.1 attempts).

Team Athlete Spotlight 19.1-Chris D.

Racks and Sacks 19.1 athlete spotlight goes to Chris D. !!! This guy is awesome!! Not only is he the nicest guy, he worked after class with the team (they love after class team skill building 😜) to practice wall balls and every single rep for 19.1 was to full depth!!! Awesome job Chris!!!!!

19.1 Team Athlete Spotlight-Gabby F.

Spotlight athlete of the week is Gabby. Gabby is battling a shoulder injury and still showed up to work. Zero excuses and always wants to do her very best. She pushes herself harder each and every class. Watching her grow exponentially lately is so inspirational. She shows up to dominate and always has a smile on her face doing it. I am beyond proud of her this week! So happy she’s on the <<cough cough>> number 1 Team! #snatchmeifyoucan

Team Athlete Spotlight 19.1-Mike S.

The Aggressively Average team member spotlight for this week is Mike Swider! This is his first Open, and he is a stellar athlete who absolutely CRUSHED the 19.1 WOD at FNL the other night, racking up 247 reps! Beyond that, he has such a great energy and attitude about him, and really pushes himself. We are so glad he is on our team and a member of CFSTC!

Athlete of the MonthFebruary

Mathew Nolan

Career: Student

Years Doing CrossFit: 7

Mathew is pretty awesome, time everyone knows it!

How Did You Get Started?
I started CrossFit when the kids classes were formed at CFSTC
Favorite & Least Favorite movement and why?
My favorite movement is the back squat because it makes me feel strong, and my least favorite movement is thrusters, because I feel like my height is a disadvantage for me and because of me being a pitcher I have the limit the amount I go over head.
What’s your favorite memory at CrossFit St. Charles?
My favorite memory is when Matthew Kirkland and I faced off at the Festivus games in the mystery wod at the very end of that day.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
My superpower of choice would be the ability to control the weather so I would be able to control when it rains so I never would have to worry about a baseball rain out.
Favorite cheat meal, go!
My favorite cheat meal is a 5 meat supreme dierbergs frozen pizza. It’s the best.
You’re a multi-sport athlete, can you tell us what you play, positions, and how CrossFit helps?
I play baseball and football. In football I’m a outside linebacker and in baseball I’m a pitcher/third baseman. I believe that the overall fitness of CrossFit helps me with both of my sports and the positions I play for both of them
What is a goal you have for yourself in 2019?
My CrossFit goal for 2019 is to deadlift 425lbs and back squat 350lbs. My personal goal is to have a 4.0 GPA.
Whats the Mathew Motto?
My motto is “All Gas No Brakes!!”. It originated from one of my football coaches at CBC. During halftime at the 2018 State Football Championship, he said this because our spirit wasn’t the best during halftime after our opponent scored at the last second of the half to make it a one score game. My coach said “all Gas No Brakes.” Multiple times and we went to win state 45-21

Kristen Is Athlete Of The Month!

Lets have a big shout out for Kristen Wood! She is the the first Athlete of the Month in 2019! She’s as good as they come, get to know her below!

1. When & How Did You Get Started With Us?
1. When & How Did You Get Started With Us?
I started in September 2017. I got interested in CrossFit after watching the games documentaries on Netflix. After having 2 kids and feeling like I got put back together like a Picaso, I needed something different and thought this would be the change I needed.
2. Favorite & Least Favorite movement and why?
I love anything with a barbell. I love getting new PRs on movements, its so fun. Burpees are my nemesis.
3. What’s your favorite memory at CrossFit St. Charles?
I actually have pretty serious social anxiety. I am so shy its hard for me to put myself out there and try new things and meet new people. So every time I come to the gym and accomplish those things its my new favorite memory.
(❤️ We love this so much)
4. Tell us a little about the day in the life of Kristen?
I get up way too early for my liking, get ready for the work, take a kid to school and get to work, save the world (not really I work in a bank doing AML 🙂 ), leave work and get kids or start dinner, clean up, help my oldest with reading or math homework, get the kids ready for bed, and if its a good day I get to come work out.
5. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
Probably being in more than one place at a time. Then maybe I could get everything done I want to.
6. Favorite cheat meal, go!
Pizza, all day er-ry day!
7. If you were to write a book, what would it be called?
The Many Disasters of an Amateur Baker
8.  If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
This is so tough. Definitely Europe. Probably London or Paris. I have spent a lot of time reading about British and French history so to see the places I have read and studied would be amazing
9. Whats the Kristen Motto?
I wish I could say it is something super motivating but I dont really have a motto. Right now I have been saying “That sounds like a you problem, not a me problem” a lot.

Lacey is Athlete of the Month!

Let’s hear it for Lacey Ebert! She won Athlete of the Month! Lacey is one of the best people you I’ll ever meet, get to know her below!

1. When & How Did You Get Started With Us?
I started in February 2017. The year before I worked hard to lose over 100lbsall I did was cardio and didn’t have any muscle. One of my coworkers suggested I try Crossfit (Thanks Rob). A few weeks after that I was at a Christmas Party with Stephanie Smith, we talked about CFSTC and the rest is history.
2. Favorite & Least Favorite movement and why?
I really like dumbbell snatches. I travel a lot for work and can do those at most hotel gyms. Least favorites, I have a few, and it’s because they are hard for me…like overhead squats, box jumps and thrusters but if I had to pick just one it would be burpees.
3. What’s your favorite memory at CrossFit St. Charles?

I ate it on a box jump and ever since then I have had a really hard time doing them. Kim had me try the 20” “soft” box and I did it. I was a little excited! I still am a wimp when it comes to them and hopefully one day I’ll be able to overcome my mental roadblock.

4. Tell us a little about the day in the life of Lacey?
If it’s a good day I make it to a 5am spin or CF class. When I get home, I get me and 3 of my 4 kids up ready to leave the house by 7:30. Then it’s off to work. I usually make it home by 6. We eat dinner, do homework, play, give the kids baths/showers and get them to bed around 8:30. By this time I have heard “Hey Mom” at least 100 times. I need to be in bed by 9 if I have any chance of making it to the gym on time the next morning. (Tuesday is the hardest day of the week with both Dance for Haley and Crossfit for Luke)
5. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
Healing. Selfishly I’d love to be able to work out and not ever hurt…but wouldn’t also be cool to make your kids, family and friends feel better?!
6. Favorite cheat meal, go!
A meal that includes Mashed Potatoes (no skins). I only eat them on Thanksgiving and at Christmas…next year I may have them instead of birthday cake!
7. If you were to write a book, what would it be called?

It’s Hard but You Can Do It

8.  If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
I have so many places I want to go…but if I could leave today I’d be on a plane to Hawaii. I love it there. I’m also not adventurous when it comes to food and Hawaii has all the “normal” things I like to eat.
9. Whats the Lacey Motto?
Take time to work on yourself. You’ll never be as good as everyone around you needs you to be if you don’t take care of yourself!

Mark is Athlete of the Month!

Let’s hear it for Mark Brennan! He takes home November’s Athlete of the Month!

1. When & How Did You Get Started With Us?
I got started about 6 months ago. When I decided that Crossfit was the way I wanted to get in shape I just looked up Crossfit gyms in the area and went with the closest one to my house. Which I think was pretty lucky because I doubt I would have liked everybody as much as I do at a different gym.
2. Favorite/ Least Favorite Workout and why?
Wallballs!! My skinny legs still need some work LOL
3. Best part about working out with 7:00pm crew?
Love 7pm!! And not just because it’s the only time I can get it in. It’s nice to blow off some steam after work. I look foward to workin out with my friends all day!
4. Tell us a little about the day in the life of Mark?
A typical day starts at 5:30am. At work by 7am. Turn broke cars into happy cars untill 6:00pm. Then hopefully make it to Crossfit on time. Then home. Shower, dinner, crash repeat.
5. If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
Time travle. I would go back and get that $1.5 billion lotto ticket!! Then use the money to become Iron Man lol.
6. Favorite cheat meal, go!
Jack in da Box tacos!! Those disgusting, delicious, greasy things filled with god knows what make me happy!
7. If you were to write a book, what would it be called?
Proper vehicle maintenance for dummies lol
8.  If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?
If I had to pick one place I would love to get back to Peru. The people there are so kind and the weather is beautiful. I had the time of my life there. It’s where I plan to retire some day.
9. Whats the Mark Motto?
Nothing is impossible. The word it’s self says I’m possible.
Way to be Mark! CrossFit St. Charles is better with you a part of us!
