Tell us a little bit about yourself:

Hi, I am Dedeepya. I was born and raised in India and came to the USA to pursue my Masters degree. I am currently working as an expert software engineer at MERCK.

What made you start CrossFit and what has kept you doing it?

Back when I started CrossFit, I just joined because my friends signed up for it. I felt stronger and I loved it. CrossFit kept my stress under control and what has really kept me going is the community. I love how everyone is so welcoming and celebrates the PR’s of others.

Has your motivation changed since you first started?

When I first joined, my motivation used to be to lose weight. Now it is to become stronger. I feel happy after each workout.

What have you learned since joining the CrossFit St Charles Family?

In this community, every member has a unique journey, yet we all share the same resolve to better ourselves each day. It’s a testament to the fact that while CrossFit is indeed about physical fitness, it’s equally about building a supportive, inclusive and empowering community.

What is your favorite movement?

Deadlift (and I am really good at it wink, wink)

What impact has CrossFit had on you outside of the gym?

It changed my mindset and relieved my stress. Years ago, I used to be very conscious about what I ate. Now, I do everything in moderation. I have my cheat days and I celebrate my victories. I have never been happier.

What is your next CrossFit goal and how close are you to reaching it?

My next CrossFit goal is to be able to do handstand push ups. I am scared of it, but I will get there slowly.

What is something we might not know about you?

I am good at cooking Indian food and exploring new recipes.

What advice might you give to someone who is considering joining CFStC or is new to the gym?

Don’t be intimidated. No one will judge you. Everyone is a beginner at some point and the Coaches have an infectious enthusiasm and will always be there to instruct and inspire you.

What is the Dedeepya Motto?

None can destroy iron but it’s own rust. Likewise, none can destroy a person but his own mindset. It’s always important to have positive thoughts about your present and your future. You should always put yourself first and self love will save you every time. You are in this world for a reason, so never lose hope or be demotivated if you encounter failures in your life. Failures are how you learn so that you won’t repeat the same mistake twice. Accept what happened, take responsibility and don’t give up. Life will reward you when you keep showing up.
