August 2022 AOTM: Gretchen Strebeck

Gretchen found CrossFit St. Charles about 5 months ago and has made great progress joining the community along with taking on the new challenge of CrossFit for the first time!

After finding CrossFit St. Charles not only has she been consistent, coachable, and a receptive person – as our coaches put it – but she’s even taken on our nutrition programming!

Make sure to read her whole story, below!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I grew up in NoCo – and moved to St. Peters with my husband in 2005.  I’m married to my BFF Frank, we have 3 daughters, 3 dogs, and a cat.

What made you start CrossFit and what has kept you doing it?

I have always enjoyed weightlifting, but typical gyms didn’t keep my attention.  I always thought about trying CrossFit and finally realized I needed to do it instead of just thinking about it.  I have kept showing up because the community at CFSTC has been so friendly and helpful, plus the workouts are always different.

She is a hard worker, coachable
on so many levels, consistent, and a great person! – Coach Jen Leander
“She’s very receptive and I just enjoy having her in class” – Coach Joelle Pruitt

Has your motivation changed since you first started?

Yes, my motivation at the beginning was vague- “get healthy/have more energy”, but my motivation now is to improve on the movements.

What have you learned since joining the CrossFit St. Charles family?

I’ve learned what AMRAP, EMOM, and HSPU stand for, to name a few.

What impact has CF had on you outside of the gym?

My posture has improved.

What is your next CrossFit goal and how closer are you to reaching it?

I want to increase my box jump height, it’s a mental challenge as much as a physical challenge.

What’s something we might not know about you?

Two of my dogs are named after characters from The Big Bang Theory – Leonard and Sheldon, and the cat is Penny.

What advice might you give to someone who is considering CrossFit?

Join us, we’re nice and you can always scale.

What is the Gretchen motto?

Progress over perfection.

If you could write your own WOD, what would it look like?

It would not have running!  AMRAP- Bike, push press, double unders, med ball sit-ups, farmers carry.

Congratulations, Gretchen! We’re all proud of you and can’t wait to see what else you’ll do!
