We have some new toys coming to the gym! This year Dave Castro announced to the world that Dumbbells will used for the first time in the annual CrossFit Games Open. We couldn’t be happier!
Dumbbells are fantastic strength and conditioning tools. They require more motor unit recruitment in order to perform movements with them, meaning we will have stronger contractions and more fibers working at a single time. Fancy way of saying they will help increase your fitness! We are so excited to incorporate these into our regular programming.
How will we? Think of all those barbell movements you love so much! Thrusters, Snatches, Squat Cleans, Push Press, and lots and lots of accessory work potential! All of those movements can in fact be done with Kettle-bells as well, however we find that dumbbells are more accessible.
We do have to lay some ground rules for using these bad boys though. WE CANT DROP THEM! They are not built the same way that bumper weights are. The odd shape and impact of hitting the floor can send these bad boys flying. Also, they will break and leave chips and could rip up our rubber flooring. Accidents happen, but can always be avoided with awareness!
Last but not least…WE COULD TOTALLY HAVE CURLS IN A WOD!
