October AOTM: Jeremy Nevil

Not only has Jeremy been nominated by his coaches for Athlete of the Month but also by his CFStC team mates. Jeremy works very hard and is a huge supporter of CFStC, we are blessed to have him as a part of our family!

Tell us a little bit about yourself
I have been doing CF for almost 5 years now. I used to be on the “thats a cult” bandwagon but knew deep down that it would work and would work for me. From my Time in the Army Infantry, we would see all of the Special Forces guys doing CF all of the time, and I could see how it helps functionally. This community is something I did NOT expect and it’s what keeps you showing up at 5am when you really don’t want to!

What made you start CrossFit and what has kept you doing it?
I started after my wife (Tiffany) finished a 6 week challenge and started with a similar challenge back at Jason Court.

Has your motivation changed since you first started?
Yes- I started CF to lose weight. But I have shifted to more of a lifestyle of fitness for longevity’s sake rather than trying to be a certain weight. While I still have goals for my weight, it’s not the end all be all. You can’t outwork bad nutrition!

What have you learned since joining the CrossFit St. Charles family?
That this is a VERY unique place. Folks are here for each other and the community that exists at CFSTC is truly special.

What is your favorite movement?
Any sort of Clean… all of them..

What impact has CF had on you outside of the gym?
So many CF T-shirts… But I have taken the some of the ways that I have been coached and I apply them when I coach my Football team. I have transitioned a lot of what we do in the gym (some warm ups, workouts, and mainly how we encourage) to my team.

What is your next CrossFit goal and how closer are you to reaching it?
My summit would be a muscleup…but something that is more achievable in the near term would be a 225# clean. DOUBLE BISCUITS!

What’s something we might not know about you?
I am 1 degree separated from Elvis. (Not by relation) My grandfather had a cup of coffee and breakfast with him when Elvis was in the Army.

What advice might you give to someone who is considering CrossFit?

Give it time. You need to invest REAL time for at least 4 months. 3x a week MINIMUM. Be willing to un-learn everything you thought you knew about working out and fitness…

What is the Jeremy motto?
I don’t have anything pithy…but… I try to stay humble, make folks laugh, press in, love well, encourage always.

If you could write your own WOD, what would it look like?
Y’all gonna hate this- 15 Minute AMRAP 10 Thrusters (95#) 15 Calories (Bike) 10 Cleans (95#) 200m Sandbag Carry LETS GOOOOOOOO

What are two of your favorite songs?
Party in the USA, Lie Down POD, Metallica, Meghan Trainor stuff, Luke Combs… Did I mention I think rules are dumb? 2 songs? Yeah nah…
